Use of home as an office

December 7, 2017

We all know that being self-employed requires us to be flexible and undoubtedly do certain bits if work from home, HMRC acknowledges this and allows a deduction from your taxable profits to reflect the time you spend working from home.

In the past HMRC allowed you to apportion the costs of your home by the number of rooms you have – they now require you to adjust this amount to be reflective of the amount of hours you actually work from home.

HMRC have issued set rates, rather than calculating actual costs which many clients find easier, you also have the added advantage that HMRC are unlikely to challenge their own amounts.
